In recent years, dosing the drinking water of livestock has become a popular method of delivering a variety of water soluble products. Some additives commonly dosed into water include:

  • Acidifiers
  • Antibiotics
  • Chemicals
  • Chlorine
  • Electrolytes
  • Medications
  • Probiotics
  • Vaccines
  • Anything else you wish to add to water.

Traditional manual treatments of livestock via individual vaccination and drenching have proven labour intensive as well as being unnecessarily stressful to the animal. Even the technique of administering treatments through the feed can cause problems with increased withholding periods. As a result is becoming more common on pig, poultry, and even sheep and cattle farms to add a variety of products into drinking water. Some reasons for this change are:

  • Water dosing is an accurate method of medication delivery.
  • By using a water dosing pump instead of handling and treating individual animals, less stress is placed on both the farm operator and the livestock.
  • Because the water intake of livestock can be easily calculated, a dosing system can be set up to deliver the right amount of medication over the entire dosing period.
  • While sick animals often go off their feed, they usually keep drinking. This makes water dosing the most effective automatic method for treating sick livestock.

As the medication delivery specialists, Think Livestock have staff with years of experience in water dosing. To help pass on good, comprehensive information on dosing, we offer a commercial consultancy service. This can involve phone consultations and/or on-farm visits, whichever you prefer, and all costs will be clearly discussed with you before any paid consultancy takes place.

Before paying anything though, please take advantage of a FREE initial phone consultation. Without any obligation or cost whatsoever you can have any preliminary questions answered during this 15 minute call, after which the choice of whether or not to proceed further is entirely up to you.
